Hi neighbours a colleague has sent me a heads up she thought might be useful to us. I had a Mirena coil fitted in feb this year and she had one fitted recently. Unfortunately its not suiting her so shes done some research on them and discovered that during clinical studies, connections have been made between RA and the Mirena. Apparently you can have checks done for silicone in your blood. Has anyone else heard of this research or can add to this claim.
May the force be with us LOL

Hi

Thank you for posting this. I've not heard about any of the research you mentioned. However, I was beginning to wonder if there was a connection. I too had a merina coil fitted in February. Since then I have been flaring constantly. My RA has never been well controlled but has definitely been worse since February. I've been trying to think why and the only thing I came up with was the merina coil, but I dismissed this as coincidence.

It was recommended by several doctors because I am always anaemic (due to RA), they said I couldn't afford to lose blood every month and the good contraceptive rates, important when taking luflunomide.

I think I will make an appointment with my GP to see what she thinks.

I'd be interested to know other people's experiences.

Becky
